What is the AI Barrister Review?
The AI Barrister Review is an online tool from Family Law Service that uses artificial intelligence to review the finances of a divorce in England and Wales. You answer a guided questionnaire about your home, savings, debts, pensions, income and children. The tool applies the law a court would use and gives you a PDF report on the most likely outcome, why, and what could change it.
It covers money and property only, for married couples with total assets of up to £2.5 million. You can add your own questions, and the report answers them.
Use it to get a realistic starting point before you talk to your ex, a mediator or a solicitor, or before you agree to an offer.
Three steps, at your own pace.
- 1
Answer the questionnaire
Tell us about your home, savings, debts, pensions, income and children, and add your own questions. Save your answers and come back to them for up to 30 days. The more detail you give, the sharper your report.
- 2
The AI reviews your finances
It works through the factors a judge weighs under section 25 of the Matrimonial Causes Act 1973, checks your figures against case law and pension guidance, and tests whether each of you could rehouse using local sold prices.
- 3
Get your PDF report
The likely outcome, the reasoning, the cases relied on, answers to your questions and your next steps. Download it, print it, or share it with a mediator or solicitor.
What's in your report

Download a full example report for a fictional couple, Sarah and David. It is 13 pages long and in the same format and depth as yours.
- How the likely outcome on the house and pensions is explained
- How each point is backed by a named case
- The tables, the questions answered and the next steps
Sarah, David and their children are invented, and so is every figure. No real client information is used.
Built on the law of England and Wales.
Our family law team built the tool on the legislation, guidance and case law a court relies on when it divides finances on divorce, and tested it against real-world scenarios.
The Matrimonial Causes Act 1973
The section 25 factors, and the section 25A duty to consider a clean break, shape every report.
Over 200 family law cases
Leading judgments such as White v White and Miller; McFarlane, cited by name in your report where they apply to your facts.
Pension Advisory Group guidance
Pensions are looked at in terms of fair retirement income, not only by splitting the headline values.
The child maintenance formula
Child maintenance is worked out on the Child Maintenance Service rates, with the working shown.
HM Land Registry sold prices
If you give your area, the cost of rehousing is based on real recent sales nearby.
Kept up to date
The legal content is reviewed every six months, and whenever new legislation comes in.
How is it different from asking a general AI chatbot?
A general chatbot answers whatever you type, in whatever shape it chooses. The AI Barrister Review was built for a single area of law and follows the same structure every time.
- Built only for divorce finances in England and Wales
- Works through the section 25 factors for every case
- Names the cases it relies on, so you or an adviser can check them
- Uses local sold prices and the official child maintenance rates
- Tells you what it assumed and what could change the answer
Designed by people who work in family law every day.
The AI Barrister Review was designed and tested by the team behind Family Law Service and Mediate UK. It is built around the questions people ask us most when they separate: at their first mediation meeting, in mediation itself, and when they come to us to make an agreement legally binding.
What our team does, and what it doesn't
Our team built the tool, tested it and keeps its legal knowledge up to date. They do not see or check individual reports. Every report is produced automatically by the AI from the answers you give.
If you want a person to look at your situation, you can book an hour of fixed-fee legal advice on finances, and use your report as the starting point.
When people use it.
Before you agree a settlement
Check whether what's on the table is in the range a court would be likely to accept.
When your ex has made an offer
See how the offer compares with the likely outcome before you reply.
Before mediation
Go into your sessions knowing the issues and where you probably stand.
Before seeing a solicitor
Arrive with your figures organised and a clear list of questions, so the appointment goes further.
When you're stuck on the house
Understand whether a sale, a buy-out or a deferred sale is the more likely route.
When pensions are involved
Find out whether a pension share is likely and how it would work.
Not suitable for: unmarried couples, arrangements for children on their own, cases outside England and Wales, or total assets over £2.5 million. For these, an hour of legal advice is a better place to start.

What is the AI Barrister Review?
It is an online AI tool from Family Law Service that reviews the finances of a divorce in England and Wales. You answer a guided questionnaire and receive a PDF report explaining how a court is likely to divide your home, savings, debts and pensions, whether spousal maintenance is likely, and roughly what child maintenance would be, with the law and cases behind each point.
Is my report written or checked by a real barrister?
No. Your report is produced by AI and is not reviewed by a barrister, a solicitor or any other person before you receive it. Our family law team designed and tested the tool and keeps its legal content up to date, but they do not see individual reports.
It is also separate from the barrister review offered by our sister service, Mediate UK, in which a barrister personally reviews a case.
Is this legal advice?
No. The report is legal information about how the law is likely to apply to the facts you give. It does not create a solicitor and client relationship, and it is not a formal opinion for court. If you want advice on your own situation, you can book one hour of fixed-fee legal advice on finances with a solicitor regulated by the SRA.
What can it help with?
Financial issues on divorce: the family home, savings, debts, pensions, spousal maintenance and child maintenance. It can also answer specific questions you add to the questionnaire. It does not cover arrangements for children, such as where they live or how much time they spend with each parent.
Who is it not suitable for?
It is not designed for unmarried couples, who are covered by different rules, for cases outside England and Wales, or where total assets are over £2.5 million. If any of these apply, an hour of legal advice is a better starting point.
If you or your children are at risk of harm, get help first: call 999 in an emergency, or the National Domestic Abuse Helpline on 0808 2000 247.
How accurate is it?
The report is only as good as the figures you enter, and it does not check them. Judges also have a wide discretion in financial cases, so no tool or lawyer can promise an outcome. Like any AI, the tool can make mistakes. To help you judge the report, it tells you what it assumed and what could change the answer. If it contains an obvious error, tell us within 7 days and we'll refund you in full.
What law and cases does it use?
The Matrimonial Causes Act 1973, in particular the section 25 factors and the section 25A clean break duty; over 200 family law cases, including leading judgments such as White v White [2000] UKHL 54 and Miller; McFarlane [2006] UKHL 24; the Pension Advisory Group guidance on pensions on divorce; the Child Maintenance Service formula; and HM Land Registry sold prices for local housing costs. The legal content is reviewed every six months and when new legislation comes in.
How is it different from ChatGPT or another AI chatbot?
A general chatbot answers whatever you type, and its answer can change with how you phrase the question. The AI Barrister Review was built only for divorce finances in England and Wales. It asks for the information a court looks at, works through the same legal factors for every case, names the cases it relies on and produces the same structured report each time.
Can I use it before mediation or a solicitor's appointment?
Yes, and that is one of the best times to use it. It helps you understand the issues, organise your figures and prepare your questions, so a mediation session or a paid appointment goes further.
Can it help if we're going to court?
It explains how a court is likely to approach your finances, which can help you think about whether to settle. It does not prepare court documents or represent you. For court, Family Law Service can help with Form A and with Form E, position statements and court preparation.
How long does it take?
You complete the questionnaire at your own pace. You can save your answers and come back to them for up to 30 days. Your report is produced automatically once you submit.
Can I download, print or share my report?
Yes. It is a PDF, so you can save it, print it, or share it with your ex, a mediator or a solicitor.
Can I change my answers after I get my report?
Your report is based on the answers you submit. To change figures afterwards, you would complete a new questionnaire and buy a new review, so it's worth checking your figures before you submit.
What happens to the information I give?
Your answers are used to produce your report. They are kept for up to 30 days so you can save the questionnaire and come back to it, and then deleted. Our privacy policy explains how we handle personal data. Family Legal Ltd is registered with the ICO, registration ZC018853.
Can I get a refund?
Yes, in full, if your report can't be produced or fails because of a technical problem, or if it contains an obvious error and you tell us within 7 days of receiving it. This is on top of your legal rights. Refunds and your rights explains both.
Why is it £9.50?
£9.50 is our founding price for the first 1,000 reviews while the tool is new. After that, the price will be £29.75. The report is exactly the same at either price. There is no countdown and no subscription.
Refunds and your rights.
Our refund promise
- If your report can't be produced, or fails because of a technical problem, we'll refund you in full.
- If your report contains an obvious error, tell us within 7 days of receiving it. If we agree there is an error, we'll refund you in full.
To ask for a refund, email hello@familylawservice.co.uk with your name, your order reference and what went wrong. Refunds go back to the card you paid with.
Our full refund policy and terms and conditions apply.
Your legal rights
Your report is digital content. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 it must be of satisfactory quality, fit for purpose and as described. If it isn't, you can ask us to put it right or replace it, or ask for some or all of your money back. Our refund promise is in addition to these rights.
You would normally have 14 days to cancel an online purchase under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013. Because your review starts as soon as you pay, you'll be asked at checkout to agree to it starting straight away and to confirm you understand that you then lose that right to cancel. Your other rights are not affected.
Know where you probably stand. Then decide.

The AI Barrister Review is an artificial intelligence tool. "AI Barrister Review" is the name of the tool: reports are generated by AI, are not the opinion of a barrister or any individual lawyer, and are not reviewed by a person before delivery. The figures in a report come from the information you provide and are not checked or verified. A court may make a different order. The service covers financial matters on divorce in England and Wales only.
Family Law Service is not a law firm and is not regulated by the SRA. We use experienced paralegals for most of our legal services. We also use solicitors who are regulated by the SRA (link) for some of our reserved legal services. These services are clearly pointed out and come with additional protections.
This page is not legal advice and each situation can vary considerably. We do offer fixed fee legal advice which can be tailored to your individual situation. (link)
